Shawn Balding

Shawn holds an electrical engineering degree from the University of Victoria and is a Red Seal Journeyman Electrician. He has been in the electrical industry for 18 years with roles including patented power supply designer, North American engineering manager, and global offer safety chair for a European multinational electrical energy and automation equipment manufacturer. Recently, Shawn has been driving electrification within the marine industry and growing the business for Canal.

Zero-emission conversion of the Marilyn Bell I

The Marilyn Bell I will be the first truly zero-emission, Li-ion ro-ro ferry in Canada, with the conversion underway with Canal. In this presentation, we will cover the lifecycle of the project, challenges, design decisions and results for propulsion, power electronics and control, system integration and energy storage systems. We will also touch on the impact of Covid-19 on the client and the supply chain.
