Rainer Altmeppen

Rainer joined Stemmann-Technik, part of Wabtec, in 2018 in the newly created role of segment leader ports and maritime. He is responsible for developing and executing the long-term strategy for power and data transfer solutions. His core skills are to develop customer-oriented low- and high-voltage energy-transfer solutions. Together with the sales team he has built global leadership in an innovative portfolio for power, charging and onshore power supply applications to meet challenging requirements. Rainer holds degrees in mechanical engineering from FH Osnabrück, Germany and Coventry University, UK as well as an MA in marketing management.

Beyond 8MW – automated charging solutions for battery-electric ferries

Stemmann-Technik has broadened its range of chargers to meet the rising power demands of ferry operators. Although waterbuses and small ferries can be charged with low-voltage solutions, ferries of 100m+ have been a challenge for chargers. The paper illustrates some very recent solutions for HV charging and the modules it takes to meet operators’ charging and safety needs.
